In combo with an SY/TG77 you have complexity and warmth with 2x good filters. They also don't sound clinical, cold and cheesy. THE digital pad machine would be something more like JD-800 or esp JD-990! THey may not have that special wavestation feature but they sound great and have GREAT filters. "width" is available to everyone in a DAW with plugins and mixing. I think it's usefulness as a sound sculpting tool is far down the list versus the advanced FM in the SY/TG77 or even lesser digital synths. A must for ambient and D&B music.I think that's over-hyping it a bit no? Yes at the time it was clever and still does 'things' that few other synths do (if any) but it doesn't mean it automatically SOUNDS GOOD? it sounds like a rompler a DATED rompler with poor filters, one that cleverly moves between it's samples but still sounds like a rompler with poor filters. It was and it is "THE DIGITAL PADMACHINE" for me. The sound is to special and very spacey and wide compared to other digital synths. Theres no real hardware alternative to the Korg Wavestation. I'm fast concluding that i've had it too long and have used it VERY little so now i'm really wondering if there is anything else out there which offers much more instant gratification in the hardware realm.Īny suggestions? life is too short to learn how to program a WS SR well Then I thought I could use it as a preset machine, drawing on the skill of people who know who to program it … but for that I’d still need some type of reliable preset transfer software… There is sounddiver but I find that I just cannot get it to reliably communicate with the WS SR. I had hoped that there would be some type of freeware/shareware programmer due to it being so old – but nothing. I’ve learned how to program it at a basic level… but it takes me FAR too long to create anything which I consider to be great. I believe it has massive potential for atmospheric character sounds – my issue is I just cannot program it with anything like the spontaneity that I had hoped for when purchasing it. I feel I’m wasting a lot of valuable time due to a very inactive Wavestation SR.
